Anime and Cartoon Art

Two Girls - August 2005
Original characters. Copic and gouache on smooth Bristol.
Mugen - June 2005
Mugen from Samurai Champloo. Actually, I drew this in Painter 9 back in March but forgot to upload it until now. This was published in Anime Insider, but I stupidly forgot to send the editor
my real name and contact info, so it's attributed to "Maynard McGuffin". Hee hee!

Warriors of Justice - May 2005
Done while watching reruns on TNT. It hurts.
Ed Liberates The Watermelon! - Sept 2004/April 2005
I started this one in coloured pencil on Bristol while bored at JTAF 2 back in September. Cleaning out my sketchpads and stuff getting ready for ACen, I found this piece again and decided to scan it and touch it up in Photoshop. It's a lot harder to blend coloured pencil in Photoshop than I thought...

Anime Central Program Book Cover - March/April 2005
Cover artwork for the Anime Central 2005 program book cover.
Art for Anime Central Staff Badge - February 2005
Badge art for staff members at Anime Central 2005. Reproduced at 2"x2", so it's pretty simple.
Flyer for AnimeFest/JTAF - September 2004
Black and white promotional flyer that I distributed at AnimeFest and JTAF 2004 in lieu of a business card. Ink on Bristol; text in Adobe Illustrator.
The King of Birds - September 15, 2004
An original character from a fantasy story I've been playing around with for a while. Coloured pencil on smooth Bristol.
Pinup Girl 3: May in the Hill Country - Aug 1, 2004
Yet another pinup girl, this time for a collaborative calendar project. Ink on Bristol, colours in Photoshop 7.
Ed & Ein - August 1, 2004
Bebop fanart commisison. Inked by hand, coloured in Photoshop 7.
Pinup Girl 2: Blackberries - 60k - May 30, 2004
Another pinup girl done as a trade with fellow artist Ben Her. Ink on Bristol, colours in Photoshop 7.
Noogie! - May 23, 2004
Commission done at JACON for a friend. Ink and coloured pencil on vellum Bristol.
Pinup Girl - April 26, 2004
Been doing a lot of pinup girl drawings lately. This one is a character I've been messing around with for a while - she turned
out a bit less chubby than I'd originally planned. Done in about 2 hours in Photoshop 7.

The Baroness - March 26, 2004 This was my submission to the SomethingAwful's J-List contest. I came in second, and ended up winning some rather... interesting prizes.
Pencils were done in non-photo blue on bright white heavy paper - inks were my first time with a Koh-i-Noor pen, assisted by a Sakura brushpen. Coloured in Photoshop 7.

Nekocon 2003 Poster - July 21, 2003
Commissioned poster art for Nekocon, an anime convention in Virginia. The girl with the cat ears and tail is the convention mascot.
This took about a month from start to finish, off and on. The final file was 265 MB. AAAH. Still, I had a lot of fun painting those clouds. Character hand inked on Bristol, all colour in Photoshop.

Untitled - June 2, 2003
Caricature commission for a personal website. Painter and Photoshop.
Oops - 65k - May 13, 2003
Another piece for the ACen art show. Again, coloured pencil and ink on Bristol.
Think Positive - April 23, 2003
Fanart of Aubrey from Something
Positive, a hilarious and very wrong webcomic.
Black Jack - 80k - November 26, 2002
Gift art done for Darkseid. Black Jack is cool!
The Open Road - May 5, 2002
Another Bebop fanart that migrated over here. I
worked hard on this and I like how it turned out. Sketched in Painter,
colored in Photoshop. This was gift art for another fan.
Oscar - April 2001
Phew! This took a long time. Gift art for Halliday. Background is a photo that I played with in Painter. |
